- Special adviser to Tony Blair from January 1998 to June 2008.
- Founder member of No 10’s Strategic Communications Unit where he drafted thousands of articles, speeches, reports and all types of written material for the Prime Minister, ministers and leading figures at home and abroad.
- A national political journalist based at Westminster from 1982 to 1998.
- Took leave of absence to work as a campaign writer on Labour’s 1997 election team.
- Deputy Political Editor of the Daily Mirror for the last seven years at Westminster.
